The Catcher In The Rye summary #3 The finale

After Holden walked 41 miserable blocks back to the hotel; he hopped on the elevator and ran into a bit of a surprise. The elevator man (Maurice) asked old Holden if he was looking for a little bit of fun. Holden was clueless and asked him what he meant. The guy said some tail, five for a throw and fifteen until noon. Holden like the idea of getting some and told him he wanted a throw. So he got off the elevator and went to his room to freshen up a little bit before she got there. He was feeling real nervous and lets not forget he was still a virgin. About fifteen minutes later he heard a knock on his door. So he rushes over to the door and falls over his suitcase on the way. Finally he opens the door, and there stands this blond headed prostitute with a polo jacket on. Her name was sunny and she came in the room and chucked he coat on the bed. Old Holden asked if she wanted a cigarette but she said no. Then all of a sudden she stood up and took her dress off. That freaked Holden out, so he started asking her all these questions. She got tired of all the questions after a while and finally asked him if they were going to do it or not. Holden just couldn't do it, she asked why but he just felt really uncomfortable. So she was ready to leave and wanted her money. Old Holden went and grabbed his wallet and got her out five bucks. Then she tried to swindle for five more but he wouldn't stand for it. Boy how embarrassed he was.

Holden was tired and depressed; so he decided to smoke a couple more ciggarettes and go to bed. While he was sitting there smoking away, he herd someone knock on his door. without lookinf out or asking who it was he opened it. Guess who stood there with his hands out, Old Maurice. Holden tried to close the door back but he just pushed Holden back and came in. He wanted the rest of the money, but old Holden new what he said. He said five for a throw and fifteen til noon. Maurice said he said ten for a throw and he wanted the rest of his money. Holden wouldnt budge so maurice punched him in the stomach. Then Sunny found his wallet and took the money. He cried for a while and eventually went to sleep depressed.

When he woke up, he was really bored and smelly. So he hopped in the shower. When he got out, he called one of his x-girlfriends that he knew. She was very attractive and he just wanted someone to hang out with. Old Holden and Sally go to the play, and Holden is annoyed that Sally talks with a boy she knows from Andover afterward. At Sally’s suggestion, they go to Radio City to ice skate. They both skate poorly and decide to get a table instead. Holden tries to explain to Sally why he is unhappy at school, and actually urges her to run away with him to Massachusetts or Vermont and live in a cabin. When she refuses, he calls her a “pain in the ass” and laughs at her when she reacts angrily. She refuses to listen to his apologies and asks old Holden to leave.

After getting over being pissed at Sally, He calls Jane but no one answered. So he called old Carl Luce, a former friend from Whooton. Really what i think is Holden is lonely and just wants a true friend. Carl arranges to meet him for a drink after dinner, and Holden goes to a movie at Radio City to kill time. Holden and Luce meet at the Wicker Bar in the Seton Hotel. At Whooton, Luce had spoken frankly with some of the boys about sex, and Holden tries to draw him into a conversation about it once more. Luce gets irritated by Holden’s childish remarks about homosexuals and about Luce’s Chinese girlfriend, and he makes an excuse to leave early.

Really drunk, Holden telephones Sally Hayes and rambles on about their Christmas Eve plans. Then he goes to the lagoon in Central Park, where he used to watch the ducks as a child. It takes him a long time to find it, and by the time he does, he is freezing cold. He then decides to sneak into his own apartment building and wake his sister, Phoebe. He ends up telling Phoebe that he was kicked out of school, which makes her mad at him. When he tries to explain why he hates school, she accuses him of not liking anything. He tells her his fantasy of being “the catcher in the rye,” a person who catches little children as they are about to fall off of a cliff. It is a crazy anolgie i know, but I think it would make him happy.

After talking to phoebe for a while he gets scared that his parents would come home and catch him. So Holden calls his former English teacher, Mr. Antolini, who tells Holden he can come to his apartment any time he needs to. After he got off the phone, his parents got home. So old Holden had to sneak out and went over to Mr. Antolini house for the night. Mr. Antolini asks Holden about his expulsion and tries to counsel him about his future. Old Holden was tired though and Mr. Antolini saw that and put him to bed on the couch. Later Holden would wake up to Mr. Antolini rubbing his head slowly. Thinking that Mr. Antolini is making a homosexual pass at him, Holden excuses himself very quickly. He slept for a few hours on a bench at Grand Central Station, witch wasn't that grand of a nap. Holden goes to Phoebe’s school and sends her a note saying that he is leaving home for good and that she should meet him at lunchtime at the museum. When Phoebe arrives, she is carrying a suitcase full of clothes, and she asks Holden to take her with him. He refuses angrily, and she cries and then refuses to speak to him. Knowing she will follow him, he walks to the zoo, and then takes her across the park to a carousel. He buys her a ticket and watches her ride it. It starts to rain alot, but Holden is so happy watching his sister ride the carousel that he is close to tears.

After a person gets socked in the mouth they tend to want to leave the place they got socked at. So old Holden took off to his favorite place in the world New York City. I would have done the same thing he did in that situation, three days of New York City to myself doesn't sound to bad.
It was to late to catch a cab that night, so he went ahead and walked to the station. Caught the bus and headed off to the fabulous New York City.

He finally arrived at Penn Station, got off the bus and caught a cab. Holden asked the cab driver if there were any good band's playing at the Taff, but unfortunately not. So he got the driver to drop him off at the Edmont Hotel, were he would be staying for the next few nights. Checked in and went to his crumby room, were many wild things would happen later that night. In his room he looked out at his windows and saw a bunch of old perverts dressing up as women. That would seriously gross me out but whatever floats your boat. He got tired of looking at the perverts, and he was feeling kind of horny. So he pulled out a number from his wallet that a guy gave him last year, about a girl that didn't mind to "do it" every now and then. He called up the number and a girl answered, but it was three a clock in the morning so he didn't get that great of a response. Faith Cavendish was here name, and after Holden told her he was in a phone booth she said no can do. She made up this lie about her friend being ill, and it would be dangerous for his health. He never met the girl and she never met him, i would never go to some house that i never met just to neck.

Holden was bored and looking for action so he took off to the to the "Lavender Room" club. He had this one side of his hair that was grey so he thought he could pass as an adult. Not at this club though, the waiter new right away that his was underage and gave him a coke. At the table right next to him saw these three girls all by themselves looking around the club. So Holden gave them the eye, he thinks he so slick. He gets up, walks over to the girls table and asks them if they would like a drink. Even though he knows he can't buy them a drink hear. He started laying his UN-slick moves on them, and finally he got the blond one to dance. She was a really good dancer, and could jitterbug with the best of them. The blond kept looking around everywhere while they were dancing, so Holden asked her what was she looking for. She said she was looking for movie stars. I guess she expected one to come in any minute but unfortunately that didn't happen. They went back to the table and kept hanging out for a while. The girls decided to leave a little after dancing, and Holden asked them if they wanted to come back to his place but they said no.

He walked out of the club into the lobby and had old Jane on his mind. No alcohol in him, he couldn't call Jane and the night was getting old. so he caught a cab to old Ernie's night club, even though it was late Ernie's was still packed out. He went inside and ordered a scotch and soda, it never mattered how old you were at Ernie's, you could drink. Old Ernie was a black man that could play the piano like no other man. He would only talk to you if you were famous, and if you weren't prepare to be ignored. Old Holden was surrounded by jerks, and then this dumb girl his brother J.B. used to date came up and talked to him. Her name was Lillian Simmons, and boy was she annoying. She asked poor old Holden a thousand Questions about his brother and him. Like were he was, how he's doing, how are you doing, why are you in New York? It didn't stop until she stopped up the line so bad that she had to keep moving. Ernie's was getting old fast, so old Holden set off towards home.

This has been a great book so far, he is quit a rebellious person. Like you said it's a pretty vulgar, but i think it explains his personality better. I my self would have acted just as he did in his situation. Being thrown from school to school and having your parents ship you off because they couldn't take care of you themselves. Although, I think he handles it well. I mean giving the situation at hand, having to put up with so much crap in his life.

Holdon caldwell, (the main character) is living out his last day at pencey highschool (Pencey is a boarding school in New York). First, he's Down at the big game, pencey's playing some terrible team for homecoming, and he is saying all his goodbye's. He told his history teacher Mr. Spencer he would comebye and say goodbye before he left to go home for the holidays. He was suppose to go home in three days but soon he would get a boost to leave early. So he went and saw Mr. Spencer and chatted with him for a while. Mr. Spencer busted his balls a little bit and asked what his parents would say. That was it though and old Holden was free to do what he pleased for the holidays.

Every one else was at the game, so Holden decided he would go up to his room and hang out by himself. Yet, he was interrupted by a very ugly, weird, unusual, and careless individual. This individual goes by the name of Achley, He always comes through the showercurtain to get in their room. The dorms are right beside eachother and the two rooms us the same shower. So Holden and old Ackley shot the breeze together for a while, and then Stradlater came in the room. Ackley hated stradlater, he thought Stradlater was conceaded, and dumb. So Stradlater started to take off his his shirt to get ready for his hot date that night. Jane Gallagher, was Stardlater's date's name, and boy did that name ring a bell with Holden. This girl and Holden had alot of history together, she was the girl he got closest to necking with.

Holden had felling's for this girl somewhat still, so he told Stradlater to tell her he said high and that she always stacks her kings in the back and never moves them in checkers. So Stradlater got ready and Holden went out to the movies with Ackley, and his other buddie. So they don't go see the movie but they do play arcad games. Then they go back to pencey for the night and Holden and Stradlater get into a fight. Well what really happened was Sradlater got pissed off at Holden and punched him in the eye. Since Holden is yellow he did nothing back. Holden went to try to sleep in Ackley's room, becuase Ackleys roomate was gone for the night. Ackley didn't like it, So Holden says screw this schooland and takes off to New York City.
